31. On November 17, 1995, I read a copy of "The Truth At Last", a publication edited by Dr. E.R. FIELDS. This publication was formerly called "The Thunderbolt" and is a white supremacist paper. The issue which I read mentions THURSTON as an "Agent of ZOG", which stands for the Zionist Occupational Government. Dr. FIELDS and "The Thunderbolt" are one of the ten victims listed on the communiqué sent by the Anti-Fascist Militia. The name "The Thunderbolt" was no longer being used at the time of sending of the mouse trap letters.

32. On December 1, 1995, I was advised by Cst. Wade SPARKS, Edmonton RCMP General Investigation Special Projects Unit, and verily believe it to be true, that:

(a) On September 5, 1995, Darren Todd THURSTON attended at his lawyer's office in preparation for turning himself in on the now outstanding Unlawfully At Large charge. Darren Todd THURSTON was taken into custody in the Edmonton Remand Centre.

(b) On September 14, 1995, Darren Todd THURSTON was released from the Edmonton Remand Centre on a $1,000.00 bail. THURSTON was to attend court in Edmonton on September 15, 1995 to answer to the Unlawfully At Large charge.

(c) On September 18, 1995 he had been advised that Darren Todd THURSTON had appeared in court on September 15, 1995, and had entered a Not Guilty plea to the Unlawfully At Large charge.

(d) Darren Todd THURSTON's trial date was set for November 10, 1995 in Edmonton.

(e) Darren Todd THURSTON was confirmed as residing at 653 Jenner Cove, Edmonton, Alberta.

(f) The phone number to that residence is (403) 465-3462 and the subscriber name is A.J. McINNES. This is the only phone service into the residence and it has been in service since May 17, 1994. There are no cellular telephone subscribers listed as using this Jenner Cove address.

33. On November 30, 1996, I was advised by Cst. Robert POWERS of Edmonton Police Service, and verily believe it to be true, that Darren Todd THURSTON was required to reside with his mother Donna McINNES at 653 Jenner Cove, Edmonton, Alberta from January 20, 1995 to September 10, 1995.

34. THURSTON travelled to Edmonton, Alberta on December 19, 1996 to visit his mother and stayed at her home at 653 Jenner Cove in Edmonton.

35. On December 13, 1995, I was advised by Constable Paul DESBIENS ("Cst. DESBIENS") of Vancouver NSIS, and verily believe it to be true, that:

(a) On October 13th and 14th, 1995, he was part of a surveillance team that was following Darren Todd THURSTON and David Nathan BARBARASH in Vancouver, British Columbia.

(b) On October 14, 1995, at approximately 1500 hrs, he was advised by Cst. Michael PIM of Vancouver RCMP Special "O" Section, whom Cst. DESBIENS verily believes, that Cst. PIM observed Darren Todd THURSTON to enter the Lower Mainland Mini-Storeroom ("Lower Mainland Mini-Storeroom") situated at 1396 Richards Street, Vancouver, B.C. carrying a dark brown file box.

(c) On October 14, 1995, he was advised by Constable Mark SKOTNICKI ("Cst. SKOTNICKI") of Vancouver RCMP Special "O" section who he verily believes.

(i) That he observed Darren Todd THURSTON to rent locker number 5525 at the Lower Mainland Mini-Storeroom situated at 1696 Richards Street, Vancouver, B.C.

(ii) That he observed Darren THURSTON to rent locker number 5525 using the assumed name of Steve TREMBLE and an address of 1872 West 6th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C.

(iii) That Darren THURSTON was observed to pay one hundred and sixty dollars in cash for the rental of locker 5525 until March of 1996

(iv) He overheard the manager of Mini Storage facility ask Darren THURSTON for identification to which Darren THURSTON replied that he did not have any identification.

(v) He then observed Darren THURSTON to carry the dark brown file box down the locker corridor towards locker 5525 and then reappear at the office are without the file box approximately 15 seconds later. Cst. SKOTNICKI then attended at locker 5525 and found that it was now locked with a padlock on it.

(vi) He observed Darren THURSTON to depart the Lower Mainland Mini-Storeroom without the brown file box.

(d) The address 1872 West 6th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. that Darren THURSTON used on the locker rental is a fictitious address.

36. On December 5, 1995, I was advised by Cst. PARKE and verily believe that:

(a) He was the informant on an Information to Obtain a Search Warrant in reference to a Search Warrant for THURSTON's locker # 5525 at the Lower Mainland Mini-Storeroom, 1696 Richards Street, Vancouver, B.C.

(b) On November 3, 1995, he appeared before His Honour Judge JAMES, a Provincial Court Judge for the Province of Alberta, and was granted a Search Warrant for Locker #5525.

(c) He was also the informant on an information To Obtain a Search Warrant for the subscriber information and long distance tolls for the phone situated at 653 Jenner Cove, Edmonton, Alberta, phone number (403) 465 - 3462.

(d) On October 10, 1995, he appeared before Judge M. MALONEY, a Provincial Court Judge for the Province of Alberta, and was granted a Search Warrant for the long distance tolls for number (403) 465 - 3462.

(e) On November 6, 1995, he and Cst. Ed TURCO, also of the Calgary RCMP General Investigation Section, travelled to Vancouver to meet with the Vancouver investigators and to execute the Search Warrant on THURSTON's locker #5525.

(f) On November 7, 1995, he attended 222 Main Street, Vancouver, and met with Elizabeth THOMSON, a Justice of the Peace in and for the Province of British Columbia, who signed an endorsement of the Search Warrant under Section 528 of the Criminal Code of Canada, authorizing the execution of the Search Warrant within the Province of British Columbia.

37. On November 7, 1995, I was advised by Cpl. FORESTELL of Vancouver NSIS, and verily believe it to be true, that on that date:

(a) He attended at Lower Mainland Mini-Storeroom, 1396 Richards Street, Vancouver, B.C. along with Cst. Don PARKE and Cst. Ed TURCO of the Calgary RCMP General Investigation Section and investigators from Vancouver NSIS and executed the Search Warrant on locker # 5525.

(b) Cpl. John Johnson, of the Vancouver RCMP Security Engineering Section, attended at 1396 Richards Street, and gained access to locker # 5525. The brown file box that THURSTON had been observed with on October 14, 1995 was located inside locker # 5525.

(c) C/M Ken LANE and C/M Cliff KUZMACK, of the Vancouver RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit, examined the file box for any potential danger from explosives. They determined the file box was safe to examine.

(d) The contents of the box included a black baseball cap, a black pair of running shoes, two large and one smaller sealed envelopes and a Realistic brand 40 channel transceiver contained in a Styrofoam box. The serial numbers for the transceiver had been scratched off.

(e) One of the two large envelopes contained 30 smaller, unaddressed, unsealed envelopes and 9 legal size unaddressed, unsealed envelopes.

(i) The 30 envelopes contained a communiqué style warning letter addressed to the "Anima Killing Scum" from the "Justice Department". These envelopes also contained 30 yellow index type cards which had a razor blade taped to one end. The razor blades had been precisely fitted on the cards to allow them to be sealed in the envelopes and go undetected until the unsuspecting recipient had opened them, and potentially causing bodily harm. The accompanying letters stated that the razor blade had been coated in rat poison.

(ii) The 9 legal sized envelopes contained a press release dated July, 1995, about the razor blade campaign and stated that 65 razor blade envelopes had been sent to guide outfitters in British Columbia.

(f) The contents of the second large envelope contained smaller white envelopes which individually contained:

(1) Various pieces of identification in the names of:

Bruce Darrin TURNER (Date of Birth: 1966.06.24)
Kelly John WHITE (Date of Birth: 1966.07.15)
Andrew James MACLACHLAN (Date of Birth: 1968.05.29)
Leanne Marie GAUTHIER (Date of Birth: 1969.01.27)

One of the pieces of ID in the name of Kelly John WHYTE is a British Columbia identification card with a photograph of a male person whom members of Vancouver NSIS recognize as Darren Todd THURSTON. This identification was issued on May 30, 1995.

(ii) Nine hundred and fifty dollars ($950.00) in American Express Travellers cheques (Canadian Currency) all signed with name of Darren THURSTON.

(iii) Fifty dollars in cash (Canadian Currency).

(iv) A memo book containing what appears to be Animal Rights target addresses in England.

(v) A photocopy of a book on how to make explosives including a pipe bomb.

(vi) A list of radical press houses, as well as businesses that deal in electronics, surveillance equipment, soft body armour, and various other businesses.

(vii) Five (5) nine volt battery connectors which are black in colour and have a black wire and a red wire extending from the "head". The "head" of the connector is longer than it is wide and has a distinctive flap on one side.

(viii) A zip lock plastic bag containing an unknown repugnant yellow gelatinous substance.

(g) The smaller envelope contained what appeared to be a traveller's hotel intruder alarm.

(h) That the five nine volt battery connectors in a white envelope, one brown envelope with a razor blade card and communiqué, 7 white envelopes which had contained items previously listed, one first class envelope, brown envelope containing one of the press release letters, a sample of the unknown repugnant, yellow gelatinous substance, and photocopies of all documents found in the file box were seized by Cst. Ed TURCO.

(i) That the items listed in sub-paragraph (h) were replaced with similar looking items except for the index card with the razor blade taped to it and the envelope it was contained in, and the sample of the unknown gelatinous substance.

(j) That all the items contained in the file box except the items seized, as mentioned in sub-paragraph (h) were photographed for evidentiary purposes.

(k) That the file box was replaced into locker # 5525 and was locked as not to avoid detection by THURSTON or BARBARASH if it were to be checked in the future by them.

(l) That on November 8, 1995 the items seized by Cst. Ed TURCO from the locker were turned over to Cpl. FORESTELL.

(m) On November 9, 1995, he turned over the sample of the gelatinous substance and the five nine volt battery connectors over to the C/M A.D. BEVERIDGE, Ph.D., Section Head, Forensic Scientist, Chemistry Section, of the RCMP Forensic Laboratory in Vancouver.

(n) On December 5, 1995, he turned over to C/M a.D. BEVERIDGE of the RCMP Forensic Laboratory a nine volt battery connector with red and black wires, and a bundle of 2.5 inch common nails which he had received from Special Constable GABRIEL which had been retrieved from the SCOTT parcel pipe bomb.

38. On March 25, 1996, I checked the Police Information Retrieval System ("PIRS") and the Canadian Police Information Centre computers and obtained the following information:

(a) The name of Bruce Darren TURNER, born June 24, 1966, which was found on a piece of identification in THURSTON's locker, shows as being on file as a victim of lost or stolen identification on December 1, 1991.

(b) The other three names, Kelly John WHYTE, Andrew James MacLACHLAN, and Leanne Marie GAUTHIER, showed no records on file.

(c) There is no criminal record indicated for any of the four names.

39. On December 7 and December 12, 1995, I was advised by C/M A.D. BEVERIDGE, Vancouver RCMP Forensic Laboratory, and verily believe it to be true that he is a qualified analyst in chemistry with the RCMP Forensic Laboratory. He performed various tests and comparisons on the seized exhibits from all four parcel pipe bombs. From those tests and comparisons he performed, he has concluded that:

(a) There was explosive residue identified as single base smokeless powder in the ALTA GENETICS INC. and ZUNDEL pipe bombs. There was no explosive residue identified in the SCOTT and MACKENZIE INSTITUTE bombs.

(b) That the only intact mousetrap was from the SCOTT pipe bomb and identified as a "Victor" brand. The ALTA GENETICS INC. and ZUNDEL pipe bomb mousetraps were in pieces. There was a partially destroyed mousetrap from the MACKENZIE INSTITUTE bomb which was a "Victor" brand as well.

(c) The mousetrap wiring was identified in the SCOTT and ZUNDEL pipe bombs. There was 7-strand copper "speaker" wire with clear insulation on the SCOTT bomb and single strand copper wire with black insulation on the ZUNDEL bomb. There were no wires attached on the ALTA GENETICS INC. bomb mousetrap and copper speaker wire was found attached on the MACKENZIE INSTITUTE mousetrap.

(d) There was glue present on the underside of the wooden base on the mousetraps from the SCOTT and ALTA GENETICS INC. bombs. There was no glue found on the ZUNDEL bomb, however, there was glue found on the mousetrap from the MACKENZIE INSTITUTE parcel pipe bomb.

(e) All four bombs used nine volt batteries. The SCOTT bomb utilized a Duracell nine volt expiry January 2000: the ALTA GENETICS INC. bomb utilized a Duracell nine volt expiry January 1999; the ZUNDEL bomb utilized a Safeway nine volt; and the MACKENZIE INSTITUTE bomb utilized a Duracell nine volt expiry 1999.

(f) The bombs sent to SCOTT and MACKENZIE INSTITUTE are confirmed to have used black plastic nine volt battery connectors with black and red wires. The ALTA GENETICS INC. bomb had remnants of a similar battery connector which is strongly suspected as being the same type of connector.

(g) That these nine volt battery connectors are generic in nature but significant in the fact that they are all the same type used in the bombs.

(h) That the nine volt battery connectors seized from THURSTON's locker # 5525 on November 7, 1995 are identical in colour, dimension and composition as the type used in the SCOTT and MACKENZIE INSTITUTE parcel pipe bombs. The remnants of the connector from the ALTA GENETICS INC. parcel pipe bomb are very similar in construction to the connectors found in THURSTON's locker.

(i) The "speaker" wire used in two of the four bombs was 7-strand copper wire which was attached to the mousetrap in the SCOTT bomb; and was attached to the battery connector in the MACKENZIE INSTITUTE bomb. In the ALTA GENETICS INC. bomb, 7-strand silver "speaker" wire was found loose.

(j) There were nails found in all four bombs which had been secured to the actual pipe. There were 103 - 2 inch common nails in the ALTA GENETICS INC. bomb. 91 - 2.5 inch finishing nails in the ZUNDEL bomb, 69 - 2 inch common nails in the MACKENZIE INSTITUTE bomb.

(k) That the ALTA GENETICS INC. and the ZUNDEL bombs had alligator clips that had "Made in Korea" and "J" logo stamped on them. No clips were recovered in the other two bombs.

(l) The pipe fragments in the SCOTT bomb were described as approximately 2 inches in length, approximately 2.25 inches outside diameter, while the ALTA GENETICS INC. pipe fragments were described as 4 inches in length estimated to be 1.5 inches outside diameter from measurement of end cap fragments.

(m) The end caps of the pipe bomb in the SCOTT bomb are described as approximately 2. 25 inches inside diameter, approximately 3 inches outside diameter, while the hole measured 5.32 inches (approximately 4 mm). The end caps of the pipe bomb in the ALTA GENETICS INC. bomb are described as approximately 1.5 inches diameter, approximately 2 inches outside diameter. The hole measures 7.32 inches (approximately 5 mm).

(n) In two of the parcel pipe bombs, a clear tape was used to secure the battery connectors to length of "speaker" wire. The clear tape is identical in both cases.

(o) In the SCOTT bomb, microscopic threads from a dark piece of clothing were found adhered to the piece of tape. The threads were there prior to the bomb detonating.

40. On December 13, 1995, I was advised by C/M Greg SMITH, of the Vancouver RCMP Forensic Laboratory, Document Section, and verily believe it to be true, that he is an examiner of questioned documents, qualified in Court, and has been for two and a half years. That he performed various tests and comparisons on the exhibits provided to him during the course of this investigation. That from those tests he has made the following conclusion:

(a) the communiqués from the MDATF which had been sent to the Vancouver Sun newspaper were printed either from a laser printer or were photocopies of original documents. They were not typewritten.

41. On November 6, 1995, I rented locker # 5523 at the Lower Mainland Mini-Storeroom at 1396 Richards Street. This locker is directly adjacent to locker #5525 which was rented by THURSTON under an assumed name on October 14, 1995. I marked locker #5525 in such a way that if opened by anyone, it would be known to myself but not detected by anyone opening the locker. I checked locker #5525 on a regular basis since the execution of the search warrant on November 7, 1995, until the execution of a warrant on December 29, 1995 and confirmed the locker had not been opened. From December 29, 1995 until January 10, 1995, the locker was checked sporadically and it was discovered that the locker had been opened on January 5, 1996. On January 12, 1996 I executed a warrant on locker #5525 and from that time until March 30, 1996, the locker was not opened. On March 31, 1996, I replaced my covert markers on the lockers which remained intact until April 2, 1996, at which time I executed a warrant on locker #5525. Following the execution of the warrant, I replaced my covert markers. On January 20, 1997, I observed that my markers were missing. On January 21, 1997, I executed a warrant on locker # 5525 after which time I replaced my markers. They have remained intact until the present time.

42. On December 29, 1995, I appeared before the Honourable Judge Godfrey, a Judge of the Provincial Court for the Province of British Columbia, and swore an Information to Obtain a Warrant pursuant to Section 487.01 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

43. On December 29, 1995, Judge Godfrey granted a Warrant pursuant to Section 487.01 of the Criminal Code of Canada authorizing Peace Officers to enter locker #5525 located at the Lower Mainland Mini-Storeroom, 1396 Richards Street, Vancouver, British Columbia and to do the following things:

(a) To mark certain contents of the box with an ultra-violet marking pen, namely the inside of the envelopes containing the index cards to which razor blades have been attached, in order to be able to identify these envelopes should any be mailed to any persons, and the baseball cap.

44. On December 29, 1995, I attended along with other peace officers, at locker #5525, situated at the Lower Mainland Mini-Storeroom, 1396 Richards Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, and executed the Warrant granted by Judge Godfrey and did the things as described in Paragraph 42 of this information to obtain, except for the marking of the baseball cap.

45. The file box was placed back into locker #5525 and the locker was locked. I marked the locker in such a manner that if opened by anyone, it would be known to myself, but not detected by anyone opening the locker.

46. On January 10, 1996, I was advised by Cpl. FORESTELL, of Vancouver NSIS, that an article had been published in the Victoria Times-Colonist newspaper on this date, in reference to an envelope being received at the newspaper office. The envelope had contained a second envelope in which there was an index card with a razor blade attached to it. The article had indicated there were two written messages contained in the envelopes addressed to guide outfitters of British Columbia and Alberta claiming to be sent by Animal Rights groups, specifically the "Justice Department". Cpl. FORESTELL also advised that the Victoria City Police were investigating the incident. I personally obtained a copy of the Times-Colonist newspaper and read the article. There was a colour photograph on the front page of the newspaper of the envelope containing the index card with the razor blade attached to it. The article stated that the messages contained with the card and razor blade had indicated the razor blades were smeared with rat poison. The article also stated that the razor blades had been tested by a scientist at the University of Victoria, Mr. Reg MITCHELL, who apparently found no traces of any rat poison or any kind of poisonous substance. The article further stated that the Victoria Police were investigating a report of a Duncan resident receiving one of the envelopes.
