Letter to an Iranian Ambassador A letter sent by an attorney familiar with Revisionism. It does not confront the Ugly Myth directly but attempts to fight oppression of Revisionists.
Dr. M. Javad Zarif, Ambassador May 29, 2007 Esteemed Ambassador: On 26 January 2007 the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution introduced by the United States of America condemning "denials of the Holocaust, in whole or in part, or any activities to this end." I am writing to you because I feel that the resolution was bad policy and hope that your office will consider proposing a counter resolution next year. The United States' resolution was politically motivated and sought to isolate and stigmatize the Republic of Iran. It also sought to criminalize historical discussion and debate. The United Nations should not be used for such political ends and I feel that your government should affirmatively act to avoid a repetition of the event. A counter resolution would be a simple way to stimulate honest debate in the General Assembly. It would shift the discussion from an anti-Iranian event to a true analysis of the matter. The proposed resolution would be short and to the point: Remembrance of the Holocaust is an important part of the United Nation's struggle against acts of genocide and crimes against humanity. Fundamental to this struggle is recognition of the basic human right of scholastic discussion and debate. Governments which have criminalized historic research and debate have failed to learn the most basic lesson of the Holocaust. Rather than comparing the various tragedies which have afflicted humanity, the Islamic Republic of Iran could make a clear stand for human rights and against politicizing history Thank you for any consideration that you give this matter. If I may be of any assistance in furthering the proposal, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely yours,
Andrew Allen
